State Representative Mario Scavello (R-176), from Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains region, was named Legislator of the Year at CAI’s Annual Meeting & Holiday Party in December 2013. Rep. Scavello was unable to attend the event to accept the award.

Chapter Executive Director Tony Campisi, 2013 Chapter President Robert Travis, CIRMS, and Christian Muniz from Duane Morris Government Strategies, PA LAC’s lobbyist, had the opportunity to present Representative Scavello with his award when they visited Harrisburg for the annual LAC Capitol Day on April 2, 2014.

Scavello was nominated for the award by Gregory Malaska, Esq., on behalf of CAI's Pennsylvania Legislative Action Committee. In his nomination, Malaska noted that "Representative Scavello, whose Pocono District contains many large and small scale common interest communities, has been a staunch defender of the interests of common interest communities in Harrisburg. He was instrumental in the development of House Resolution 350, which facilitated the study of common interest communities in the state."

Scavello has also spearheaded legislation to address the data gathering concerns identified in the Joint State Government Commission’s report.  Said Malaska: "As a former County Commissioner, he understands the importance of collecting data on common interest communities and as a member of his association’s board of directors, he understands the regular challenges faced by communities, both large and small throughout the Commonwealth."
